Nissan cuts production, temporary workers
Japan's Nissan Motor Co. announced today that it will reduce production by 78,000 vehicles more, following already extensive slashes in production this year. The company will also cut 500 temporary workers. The workers will be let go between January and March of next year. The company also plans to temporarily idle several car and engine factories in Japan. Nissan hopes to avoid accumulating an excess of inventory as the global demand for vehicles continues to decrease. The company has cut production by 225,000 vehicles in the last year, 16% of its initial production forecast of 1.388 million vehicles for this year.
