Clark County, union officials agree to pay raise reductions
After months of negotiations, the Service Employees International Union Local 1107 in Clark County Nevada agreed on Monday to reduce cost-of-living raises by 2%, as well as decrease the maximum amount of permitted merit pay raises. The concessions, if approved by the union's 9,500-worker membership, will save the county $9.6 million annually. The county is facing a $100 million budget deficit, which promoted union leaders to negotiate concessions in order to avoid layoffs. In return, SEIU's contract was extended by a year.
