Unions oppose funding rules
Construction union members will protest state project funding in Albany today. Unions are seeking legislation that would ensure projects getting public funding be officially considered public works projects and thus involve organized labor by requirement. Such legislation has been proposed by labor committee leaders in the state legislature. At the center of the issue is GlobalFoundries ? a company that has received $1.2 billion in state funding for a new plant, but has refused to sign a formal agreement with unions.
