Strike action by postal workers
About 12,000 postal drivers across Britain, represented by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are taking part in temporary walk-outs today in protest over job cuts and pay cuts being made by Royal Mail. 110 workers in Plymouth came up with a unique strategy for minimizing pay loss while still participating in the strike action. Workers struck for two hours during the early shift this morning, then returned to work. Employees will walk out again for two hours in the late shift, starting at four o'clock BST this afternoon. Royal Mail has said that the strike represents workers' refusal to allow the business to modernize. Strikes are also taking place in London, Edinburgh, and Bristol.
