National Football League (NFL) players and owners resumed negotiation on a possible extension of the current labor contract, which runs through 2010, this afternoon in Washington D.C. The players' current salary cap only lasts through one more season. Today was the second major negotiation meeting between the NFL Players' Association and the franchise owners, but it does not appear that much progress was made, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was not in attendance. The union is looking to increase its lobbying presence in D.C. and to that end union president, Tennessee Titans center Kevin Mawae, and a group of over 20 current and former players to Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill later this afternoon. No mention was made of another negotiating session at this time.
