In an on-going trend of victory for the Service Workers International Union (SEIU) in Massachusetts, another hospital's worth of employees have voted to join 1199SEIU United Health Care Workers East. The local currently has 630 members throughout Massachusetts, and has acquired thousands of supporters in the state in the last months. 400 workers at the Lynn Union Hospital, including nurses assistants, phlebotomists, housekeepers, and dietary workers, voted Thursday to join the union, adding to the 147 Lynn employees already union members. Workers cited many reasons for voting pro-union, including increased job security, increased ability to resist funding cuts, and a way to expand and improve training.
