Union members, families rally at pre-Labor Day celebration
Several thousand people gathered in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada Thursday at a pre-Labor Day celebration that was both festive and serious. Given the recession, this Labor Day is being taken exceptionally seriously across the country and Vegas has proved no exception. The rank and file members of a number of various Vegas unions, as well as many leaders and important politicians, came out Thursday to rally and to celebrate Nevada working families. Approximately a quarter of union workers in Nevada are currently unemployed. The rally looked to forge ties between politicians, union leaders, and union labor in hopes of working together to create jobs, as well as promote the use of union labor for public enterprise. Members sported t-shirts with a Union work=Quality labor slogan.
