Volvo union concerned as Ford names Geely preferred bidder
Magnus Sundemo, head of Volvo's engineering union in Sweden, expressed concerns in an interview Wednesday, over the designation of Chinese automaker as the 'preferred' bidder for ownership of the Swedish company. Sundemo and the union want to make sure before endorsing the bid that the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group will make an effort to understand and work with the Volvo culture. Union members are concerned that the values of the Volvo workplace will be forgotten, and that suppliers and technology will be changed. The union has called for the government to make a "thorough and extensive investigation" into the bid for the "sake of the jobs and welfare of Sweden."
