Union Local pays for anti-Bloomberg ads
The Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1180 has funded a far-reaching anti-Bloomberg ad campaign that will launch tomorrow. The Local is acting independently of, but in support of, Democratic opponent William C. Thompson Jr, who has been outspent by Bloomberg 16:1 thus far. The ads include a harsh, satirical television commercial, a radio ad, a Web site, and a series of planned political protests. They criticize Mayor Bloomberg's exorbitant spending, claiming that he "takes a helicopter to play golf." The CWA Local 1180 represents about 8,000 government employees, with an average salary of $45,000.
