Sick, on the job
A new report from the Families and Work Institute concludes that workers across the country are less healthy and more stressed than they were six years ago. Although lack of health care is one predominant cause of the nation's decline in health, the report cites factors as productivity, workplace environment, a respectful boss, job security, and schedule flexibility as contributing to employee wellness also. Workers are twice as likely to be in excellent health in a so-called "effective" workplace as they are in less supportive, more stressful work environments.
