Union criticizes LAPD for lax security in storing confidential records
The Los Angeles Police Protective League has criticized the LAPD for an unacceptable and "massive breach of security." Several hundred boxes of case material were found sitting unattended in a police alleyway, guarded only by a 'Do Not Remove' sign, and some caution tape. The boxes contained information about evidence, witnesses, and victims, including social security numbers and addresses. Earlier in the year a confidential report on officers accused of misconduct made its way onto the internet. The LAPD Assistant Chief has said that they hope to work with the union to improve training, contact commanding officers, etc.
