San Carlos police union blasts council member for commenting about labor negotiations
The San Carlos Police Officers Association says that council member Matt Grocott has violated open meeting laws by discussing ongoing labor negotiations at a political forum earlier this month. Grocott says he was only stating his personal opinion, and did not violate information disclosure laws. The city attorney has nevertheless agreed to conduct a preliminary investigation into the matter, saying that if the accusations have merit, then it is a serious matter. Grocott's comment accused the union, who have been negotiating a new contract with the city since April, of stalling until the passage of a sales tax increase bill. The union says that the fact that they continue to negotiate shows that they are not holding out for anything.
