BA union says vote for strike needn't kill off talks
Cabin crew employees at British Airways have expressed the hope that talks will continue despite a pending strike vote. Almost 4,000 employees are set to be let go or reduced to part-time (although nearly all are volunteers). A suit against management wrapped up yesterday, when the courts declared the cuts legal, and the union must now decide if it wants to go through with a strike. The strike ballot began several weeks ago, and results will be released Monday. If a strike is approved, workers could be walking off the job as early as March 1. Nevertheless union leaders say that in the meantime they will do all they can to continue, and hopefully succeed in, negotiating with management.
