AA Transport Workers Picket At DFW Airport
Several dozen employees of American Airlines picketed with the Transport Workers Union yesterday, in hopes of a pay increase, and in protest of executive and management bonuses. Union members absorbed 14% to 18% pay cuts in 2003 when American Airlines was trying to avoid bankruptcy and no raises have been awarded since then, meaning some have been working at a year 2000 or so level salary for the past ten years while inflation continues to go up and up. The picketing employees marched through Terminal D at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport, carrying signs decrying executive bonuses. The union is not asking for a raise, but to return to salary levels before the pay cut - they believe the delay has to do with executive bonuses. On the other hand, the airline says no bonuses, other than stock, have been given since 2001.
