Temple and nurses settle strike
A 28-day strike by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals at Temple University Hospital has been ended after a tentative agreement was reached today after four straight days of negotiating. Three ratification votes will take place throughout the day today and, assuming that all goes well, the nurses and allied health professionals will return to work at 7pm on Friday. The new contract covers three years, and includes wage increases and some tuition reimbursement for dependents, the final sticking issue. The negotiations were presided over by US Representative Bob Brady, who expressed, as did spokespeople for the union and the hospital management, satisfaction with the new agreement. With the strike over, the 850 replacement workers flown in from all over the country will return to their homes.
