Temple Hospital labor talks continue
Talks continued this weekend between the Temple University Hospital and the currently striking Pennsylvania Association for Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals. A union spokeswoman said that although Sunday was a long, slow day some progress was made, but that several big issues, including wages, health care, benefits, tuition reimbursement, and a disparagement clause have not been resolved. The strike at Temple Hospital began on March 31, after 1,500 allied health professionals walked off the job having worked under the terms of an old contract for six months. The union has decreased its wage demands since the strike began, but the hospital remains firm about what is possible under budget constraints. A union official called the management position stubborn, saying they've already spent what the wage increases would have cost them paying replacement workers during the strike. Talks are scheduled to take place every day this week.
