Greece's Largest Unions Plan Paralyzing Strike For June 29
The GSEE and ADEDY, two of Greece's largest unions, together represent around 1.2 million workers. The two unions have agreed to a strike on June 29 to protest labor and pension reforms. The strike will be the fifth this year, and is expected to halt most aspects of Greek business. The unions are protesting what they see as an undermining of workers' rights and a lack of understanding of what the people want. The GSEE said that the strike was also in protest of the lack of a national collective bargaining agreement, which is being held up due to employer opposition. Union spokesman said that they needed to protest, to send a message to Greece and the rest of the world.
