New Rules on Changes to Benefits
The White House will issue new rules about health coverage on Monday. The new rules will help stop employers from cutting coverage or increasing costs. Some employers with health plans that were in existence on March 23 are partially exempted from new rules in the health care bill. However, the administration says that there are provisions to make sure that employers who are 'grandfathered in' do not take advantage. Under the rules for plans that were grandfathered in, large increases in employee contributions, co-pays and a decrease in the amount of coverage offered or for what conditions may lead to the plan being changed to better fit the new legislation. The administration says that those on group insurance plans with more than 100 employees will not be majorly affected by the rule changes. About 170 million Americans have employee-based health care.
