Fiat, Unions To Resume Car Plant Talks On Friday
Fiat and unions at its plant in Italy where it plans to build a new type of car will begin another round of negotiations on Friday. Unions feel that the company is asking too much and that the measures Fiat is using to lower absenteeism and stop wildcat strikes are too harsh. Fiat wants more flexibility in working schedule for the 5,000 employees at the plant. The company has warned that if the unions do not settle quickly, the company will take the work elsewhere, adding to the fears of the Italian government. Workers at the Polish plant where the car is currently being produced are fearful of job and salary cuts if production is moved to Italy.
