U.S. Jobless Claims Drop but Remain at Elevated Levels
With corporate spending increasing and the number of people claiming jobless benefits for the first time decreasing, many are optimistic about the chances of further economic recovery. But not all signs are as good: consumer spending is not keeping pace with business investments, unemployment remains high, and the sales of new homes dropped as federal incentives ceased. While some see signs of recovery, others fear the onset of a double-dip recession.
