Hollywood drivers, studios reach contract agreement
The Teamsters accepted a proposed contract agreement from Hollywood studios on Sunday, averting a possible strike. The Teamsters represent over 3,000 drivers who work on sets and on-location shoots. The studios had offered a 2% raise and increased contributions to health plans, but the Teamsters wanted a 3% raise, equal to the one given to other unions. The studios added other incentives on Sunday, averting the Teamsters' plan to call for a strike. The last strike for the drivers was in 1988, though they did support the writers strike in 2007. The studios also have upcoming negotiations with actors this year and the writers next year.
