Strike hits banking services in Bengal, Kerala, Mumbai
Two of India's trade unions called on workers in the banking industry to strike against the banks. the strike was over price raises, disinvestment policies and violations of labor laws. Banks in West Bengal, Kerala and Mumbai were the most affected by the strike, while those banks without a strong union presence were mainly unaffected. West Bengal and Kerala are both ruled by India's left, and those banks that are affiliated to Leftist trade unions participated in the strike. A spokesman for IDBI said that the strikes had little impact on their operations, but union leaders say that the strike was a success.
