Unions Accuses China of Illegal Clean Energy Subsidies
The United Steelworkers Union will file a legal case with the government today, alleging that China has broken World Trade Organization rules, and has subsidized exports of clean energy equipment. The union says that the Chinese government has used land grants, loans and other measures to violate the rules, and that those violations have helped China expand their share of the market for clean energy equipment. The USW is one of the only organizations willing to challenge China, companies fear retaliation and political ramifications, while the union fears a loss of more jobs to China. Many trade law firms were expecting a case to come up regarding China's clean energy exports sooner rather than later, and most have been gathering evidence for months. The report that will be filed consists of more than 5,000 pages
