Tunnock's biscuit workers go on strike
Around 350 employees of teacake, snowball and caramel wafer producer Tunnock are on strike for 24 hours today. Workers are voting on a offer of a 2% pay raise, but decided to strike anyways. This is the second day of striking since pay negotiations failed earlier this month. The first walkout was last Thursday. A spokesman for the union said that they were disappointed that the company had not come back with a better offer. Workers say that strike threatens the supply of Tunnock's products, which are very popular in Scotland. They also said that striking was something that they thought hard about before doing, because of the respect they have for their employer. Balloting is due to close on October 4.
