Ending Strike, Mott's Plant Union Accepts Deal
The 300 workers who had been striking at a Mott's plant in Williamson, NY announced that they had reached a deal with the company that would end their 16 week strike. The three-year deal will freeze wages and reduce pension payments, but falls far short of the cuts the company was demanding, which included pay cuts of $1.50 an hour. Representatives for the workers say that they are happy that they withstood the pressure from the company, and that they are happy with the outcome. The strike drew attention from companies and unions across the country, to see if Mott's could force its employees to take a pay cut while the company made over $500 million in profits. Unions worried that a pay cut for the Mott's workers would mean the same for their members.
