Christie files notice to lay off 1,200 state workers
Chris Christie, the Governor of New Jersey, has filed a notice to cut 1,200 state jobs this winter. A spokesman for the Civil Service Commission says that the number will probably be about half of that with attrition. A spokesman for the Governor said that they will know more about the exact number later this year. The budget originally called by 1,300 layoffs or a savings of $8.8 million. The New Jersey director of the Communications Workers of America, which represents a large number of state workers says that so many people have been retiring there is no reason for layoffs.
