New teacher education program headed to 8 states
Recommendations from the Blue Ribbon Panel on Clinical Preparation and Partnerships for Improved Student Learning created by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education will be implemented in pilot programs in eight states, including New York, California, Oregon and Tennessee. The new system will be based on the intensive training common to programs like medical school. Students will be put into classroom situations earlier, and will receive feedback from experienced teachers. The reform is designed to make teacher training a collaboration between colleges and schools. The pilot program is expected to begin in fall 2011, and will emphasize improving instruction in urban and rural areas.
