TNT postal workers strike over forced layoffs
Dutch postal workers at mail and delivery company TNT began a strike on Monday as part of a 24 hour protest over layoffs. TNT plans to eliminate 11,000 jobs, some though voluntary redundancies. This summer the company said that the number of layoffs would probably be about 4,500, but offered to reduce that number to 3,100, which the union rejected. The union says that the company does not seem willing to work with them for a solution, and so a strike was their last option. The company says that the layoffs are necessary, and the union cannot change that.
