Chile's Collahuasi, workers seek deal to end strike
Management at Chile's Collahuasi copper mine have agreed to renew talks with the union after 25 days. The mine had offered a $29,000 bonus to workers who stopped striking, an offer which expired on Friday. The mine was able to convince less than 15% of the 1,551 workers to abandon the strike. Talks are expected to begin on Monday afternoon, after weeks of pressure from the union. The strike is likely to set a new record, beating the previous one of 26 days at another mine. Analysts say that if the strike continues for another two weeks, the impact on the mine's output could be much greater than it is presently.
