Filipinos sue CA hospital over English-only rule
Filipino workers at a California hospital filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday accusing the hospital of prohibiting them from speaking Tagalog and other languages at work, through other workers were allowed to speak Spanish and Hindi. The workers want to join a complaint filed by the EEOC in August over the hospital's rule. workers say that they were instructed to only speak English and that they would be monitored. The EEOC says that it has seen an increase in complaints around discrimination because of national origin in California's central valley.
