Bahrain Trade Union Joins Opposition
The General Federation for Bahrain Trade Unions, which represents over 60 unions, says that it has joined the opposition group that is articulating the demands of the anti-government protesters. The union says that they will strike if a variety of conditions are not met, including no military suppression of the protests and fair negotiations. Last week unions called for strikes when the military was called on to suppress protesters, but suspended the strikes after the military pulled out. Protests in Bahrain began over a week ago, and the government says that it wants to begin talks with the protesters.
