Court ruling a boost for Qantas in union battle
A court has ruled against the Transport Workers Union in a case brought by Qantas. The airline had alleged that the union violated workplace laws in a strike three years ago. The case will return to court at the end of May to consider any fines the union may have to pay. The ruling comes after the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association, which represents aircraft engineers, called off two planned work stoppages for Monday and Tuesday, and said that they would not take any action for a month. The pilots' have warned that they will conduct a ballot for industrial action if management does not change by next Thursday.
