NY union rejects tentative contract with Cuomo
Members of Council 82 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees in New York State rejected a contract agreement negotiated by the Cuomo administration. The agreement, the first that the administration had negotiates, included a pay freeze and other concessions. The Governor says that the concessions are necessary to reduce a budget deficit. Council 82 is facing a desertification effort from the Police Benevolent Association, which says that the contract proposal is another reason for members to decertify the union. The Public Employees Federation has previously stated that it rejected similar proposals from the Cuomo administration.
