Postal Service proposes cutting 120,000 jobs, pulling out of health-care plan
Facing steady declines in mail volume and revenues over the past few years, the U. S. Postal is proposing to layoff 120,000 of its employees, as well as abandoning its federally-managed health plan in favor of a cheaper self-administered plan. To do so the Postal Service would need to break long-standing labor agreements including layoff protections for workers, a move that would have severe repercussions for employees throughout federal government. The proposal has already drawn an outcry of protest from postal unions, and vows to petition Congress not to approve the plan.
