Seattle poised to adopt mandatory sick leave law
Members of the Seattle City Council say that they will pass an ordinance mandating paid sick leave for most employees in the city. The ordinance would require all companies with more than four employees to provide five days of paid sick leave, with numbers increasing the larger companies get. A report estimates that 190,000 workers in Seattle do not receive paid sick days. About a third of all food-borne illnesses in Seattle were linked to workers who were sick at the time. Seattle will be the third city to adopt this type of ordinance, after San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The vote will take place Monday.
