E-Verify Bill Against Illegal Workers in Doubt
Conservative groups are joining liberal in fighting a bill in Congress that would require employers to use E-Verify, an electronic database that checks to see if employees are eligible to work in the United States. While liberal groups say that the bill is discriminatory, the conservative groups say that it could hurt business and is an increase in government regulation. The bill is currently in committee. Studies of the E-Verify system have put its accuracy rate at over 99%, however it does not catch those who use stolen or borrowed documents.
