Top 'Innovators' Rank Low in R&D Spending
A new study shows that companies that spend the most money on research and development are not always those who are considered innovative. Companies rated the most innovative, including Apple and Google, are not among the top 20 spenders in research and development. Many of the companies that invest heavily in R&D are health care companies, which can take longer than a decade to bring a new product to the market. However, analysts show that companies can use other strategies to encourage creativity in their employees, including having employees attend meetings and presentations outside of their areas of expertise.
