Indian workers demand greater rewards
Workers at Suzuki plants in India have gone on strike three times since June, asking for an independent union, and against retaliatory moves by management. Earlier this month, 1,500 workers occupied the factory for eight days, until they were removed by police. The company says that it has resolved differences with workers after government mediated talks. However, labor leaders say that the agreement is dependent on the further actions of the company, and the respect they show workers and the union. The strikes are estimated to have cost the company around $400 million.
