Houston workers demand justice for wage theft
Houston workers are protesting wage theft. The Houston Interfaith Worker Justice Center sponsored the protest, and says that they have documented more than $3.3 million in stolen wages in the last four years. The protesters in Houston targeted six businesses who have been accused of wage theft. Workers say that employers said they would pay them at the end of a project, but then never did. A new wage law allows law enforcement to investigate cases of wage theft and increases penalties. The Department of Labor collected $224.8 million in back wage this year, the largest amount ever, and the federal government has put an emphasis on stopping wage theft.
