Unions warn FIFA of "modern slavery" in Qatar
FIFA, soccer's governing body, was warned by international unions that workers building facilities for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar experience "modern slavery." The unions say that the workers in Qatar, 94% of whom are migrants, experience dangerous working and living conditions, are not paid appropriately and have passports withheld. FIFA says that they would talk to Qatar about the working conditions, and that in the future labor conditions will be a consideration when awarding the World Cup.
