Reinstate fired Haitian workers, Montreal clothe maker Gildan urged
Gildan Activewear and Hanesbrands are facing pressure from workers' rights advocates to reinstate workers who were fired or forced to resign from Haitian factories after forming a new union. Advocates say that the factories take advantage of workers, and that workers are subject to unfair working conditions. Gildan says that the company is looking into the firings, and that it is not satisfied with the explanation it has received. The firings are being investigated by Better Work Haiti, a partner of the International Labor Organization.
