Council Speaker Hears Sharp Debate on Wage Proposal
The New York City Council heard from community members at a hearing regarding a proposed law that would increase wages for workers in developments that are subsidized by the city. The law would require workers to be paid $10 with benefits or $11.50 an hour without benefits. This is above the state minimum wage of $7.50. The Mayor's office opposes the bill, but supporters hope that pressure from Occupy Wall Street protests might help the bill get passed.
