Overtime bill pits needs of high-tech employers vs. workers
High-tech firms are working together to campaign for laws that would limit overtime benefits for their employees. The firms say that such laws will keep them from sending jobs overseas. High-tech employees say that the laws as a way to get more from them while paying less, and that they see overtime pay as compensation for working longer hours. Around 3 million people work in computer-related jobs. Many workers are already exempt from overtime laws, with those making $23,660 a year or who are paid over $27.63 an hour being excluded.
