Immokalee workers take protest to Publix headquarters
Protesters representing the Coalition of Immokalee Workers are staging a six-day fast in an effort to pressure Publix to sign on to the Fair Food Agreement. Signing on to the agreement would require the supermarket chain to pay a penny more per pound of tomatoes. The Fair Food Agreement is part of an effort to increase the wages of the farm workers. Other corporations have already signed on to the agreement, including Burger King and Whole Foods. Workers participating in the fast say that they are trying to get Publix to do the right thing.
