UAW wants Volkswagen workers to seek union election
The United Auto Workers say that they have begun distributing representation cards at a Volkswagen plant in Tennessee, in an effort to see how much support the union would have. The UAW said that they have not begun an official organizing campaign. While the UAW only needs 30% of the 2,700 workers to sign the cards before an election can be called, most unions only file an election with 75% or more. The UAW is starting to organize plants in the South within the next few years.
