After a four day shutdown of 350 Bangladeshi garment factories, about 8% of the production, workers ended protests over pay. Factory owners said that workers have agreed to allow the factories to operate, and that they will consider workers' demands over pay. Workers are asking for a pay increase in order to meet food and housing costs, but owners say that they cannot afford to meet the demands. Garment production accounts for around 80% of Bangladesh's exports and is a large part of the economy.
