Benefits for striking low-paid workers to be axed
British workers who go on strike will no longer be compensated by the government. Starting next year, workers who make less than 13,000 a year will not have their lost wages made up by the government. The Trades Union Council said that the move will deter workers from exercising a democratic right. The union pointed out that workers did not go out on strike unless they felt that they had no other choice. The government says that striking is a choice, and that they cannot afford to compensate workers for striking.
