As Strikes Wane, Caterpillar Workers Hold The Line
Caterpillar workers in Illinois are entering their third month of a strike. The workers rejected an offer from the company earlier this year. The proposed agreement would have frozen wages for most workers, increased health costs and cut pension benefits. Workers say that the company has not negotiated in good faith. Caterpillar earned record profits last year, and is expected to do the same this year. The company says that it made a reasonable offer, and is hiring temporary replacements for the strikers. No new negotiations are scheduled.
