United Continental Reaches Deal With Pilots
After two years of negotiation, United Continental struck a tentative agreement with pilots from both segments of the merged airlines, paving the way for further integration within the new company. Observers say the deal will improve pay for United Continental pilots, on a par with the recent Delta Airlines contract. In the meantime, the Air Line Pilots Association, which represents both United and Continental pilots, will begin the process of negotiating an integrated seniority list of pilots, which will determine which planes pilots can fly, what schedule and routes are available, and by extension, pay rates. The company will then be able to schedule pilots from either airline to each other?s planes, thereby streamlining operations.
