15 arrested blocking street to support janitors
As part of a demonstration in support of striking Houston janitors, fifteen people were arrested on Wednesday. Protesters say that they came from around the country to support the janitors, and that raising wages for them will lead to better wages for other workers. Houston janitors began striking sporadically after their contract expired on May 31, and the protests have expanded to include around 475 janitors and 36 buildings since then. The workers are asking for a pay raise, which the companies have countered with a much lower offer.
